You are Form 2, Angel: The Pure.
"And The Angel rose as holy protector for
all that was created. She fought with honor
and valor to serve the good of the world. But
the coming of the mankind was her downfall; and
end to purity."
Some examples of the Angel Form are Michael
(Christian) and Hercules (Greek).
The Angel is associated with the concept of virtue,
the number 2, and the element of wind.
Her sign is the zenith sun.
As a member of Form 2, you are a person of your
word. You generally keep your promises and
give everything you do your best. Although
some people see you as overbearing sometimes,
you know that you have to stay true to yourself
and do what's right. Angels are the best
friends to have because they are brutally
honest.

Precautionary Tips about Kidnapping
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!
2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you....chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in
a zig -zag pattern!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP. It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
************* Here it is *************
9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her
"Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door."
The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.
Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby. This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby theory was mentioned on America's Most Wanted this past Saturday when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana.
I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well.
Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Meditations On My Past
Yesterday was one of the labor days for moving out of the apartment. At the end of the day, I had filled two recyclables worth of papers from my high school, college and graduate studies. Classwork from Latin, translations of German in my sophore year at college, my calculations for precalculus, and my hard work on biochemistry all went into the recylable bin. It took nearly fifteen years for me to let go. But finally, I could accept that these things are now part of me.
Part of the difficulty of letting go, of course, is that you see yourself either as a teen-ager or a college student with the hopes and dreams and whole world as your oyster. But slowly, and surely, your plans are unraveled and your path does not take the path that you imagined. There is nothing more disappointing that letting go of your dreams and your struggles. After all, these are the things which made you.
Perusing over the bits of papers, memorabilia and other mementos, I had to conclude that I was a bit of a depressing teen-ager like everyone else. I wrote down in one of my journals my frustrations as a junior in college because I did not have a girlfriend, hated my classes, and did not have friends. All things which plague college students.
The choices that one selects end up governing one's life. I might not be a successful surgeon now, but I realize that I am also not divorced three times over with a massive ego problem. My sister and brother sometimes ask if I regretted not becoming a physician. I look at my ego then, look at my happy relationships with my siblings now, examine my relationship with the SO and give thanks to the almighty that I am not a physician.
I see the photos of people from my college at the Student Learning Center and I am forced to throw them away. I do it because I now select the memories that I want to have. I want the happy memories. Not the sad ones. I want to relive the happy part of me, not the sad ones. Sadly, those photos remind me of the odd person I was.
I have come upon many Penthouse and Playboy magazines from ten to fifteen years ago. What to do with one's adolescence? I admit I read the articles and did not look at the photos. I was always a nerd like that. Bwahhahah. It's hard to drop photos of my generation off to the recycle bin.
During my time in Indianapolis, I collected comicbooks galore. Another fantasy I had as a child. At the same time, it salved my thirst for literature though it had drawings in it. The comics were even packed in plastic. It was my first job with a real paycheck. What else could I do but spend the money?
I have now accumulated so much clothes that I pack a bedroom with clothes. Last night, it was time to say goodbye to some friends worn thin by the washing machine. By the way, if you have not tried those front door washing machines, you really ought to. We did some laundry last night and they were simply fabulous. Less detergent is needed; clothes are dried better. The SO has asked for one when we get the house.
So, I have another day to spend to pack and close out what has been my home over the last sixteen years.

The New Yorker
The New Yorker
The SO loves me so much that when I asked for a subscription to the New Yorker, she relented. I had grown tired of reading Entertainment Weekly. Tired of seeing white actors and actresses with no pigmentation be made into the image of gods and goddesses. Tired of seeing how light can be manipulated so that bone white skin becomes tanned golden skin. Sick of the barely grade three level language that posed as high thought. If one is going to insult, use a simile or a metaphor.
But, seeing that I get attached to newspapers and magazines, I still have some from 1991 in my apartment, I told the wife that I will have a four week notice on all magazines. Four weeks, and if I have not read them, out to the recycling room they go.
But how do you let go of a wonderful story? I suppose I kept them because I wanted to hold onto the image or the story. But after holding on for fifteen years, what do you get for the story? I never read them again or looked at them. Nope, never touched them in the least.
So, out with the old and in with the new. I have four weeks to read a magazine. The plus side is that I can ignore all the sad stories. For example, last week's magazine had the story of an Iranian couple in Iran. Husband and wife were journalists. Well, you know, there is no freedom for the pess in Iran. You can just see what is on the horizon for those two.

Maligayang Araw
ng Malaking Ibong Hinain Mula sa Apoy! Happy Turkey Day everyone. A day of thanks. Thanks for sixteen years living in an apartment. It's been my hall of solitude and loneliness. By the last ten years, nary anyone ventured in or out. It was out of shame because I was a messy dude. But I did not know or trust anyone.
What can I say except, hopefully, my son or daughter is not as messy as I am.

A Letter From a Priest
Dear LSQC Alumni,
Ang sanggol sa sabsaban ay naging isang tao na
bukas-palad na itinalaga ang sarili bilang lingkod ng
Diyos, Manunubos at Manggagamot na dakila. Diyos
Siyang nagpakababa at naging aba tulad natin upang
isang kusing man lamang o isang basong tubig.
Bakal

The end of weddings
The SO and I attended the last of the series of six weddings which dated back to last year. The first was at a love chapel in Vegas. The second was at a church in Hayward. The third was in San Diego. The one in Fremont was the fourth. Ours was the fifth. And finally, the last one was this weekend. If we add there friend's weddings, well, there were two more weddings (Vegas and Oakland).
Inherently, all weddings like women are beautiful. The bride is glorious and glowing in her attire. The groom is dashing. The relatives are blasé because they have been to tens of weddings. The wedding simply becomes a place to see old family members and meet the kids.
I underestimated the time and we did not see the bride roll down the aisle. But the church looked great though a little claustrophobic. The huge stained glass windows were beautiful. I can see why people would love to go to church in the middle ages.
It will probably be quiet for a year and then, just like time, another series of weddings will commence.

The Meanness of People
A new level, of self-promotion is seen as politicians in the Philippines hold a gay boxing tournament. It is disappointing to see those who would lead the country use others in such a blatant manner. But it only emphasizes that Filipinos have a long way to go in treating their fellow countrymen.
At the very least, I hope the gay boxers got paid money. They should be on Broadway and not on the ring.

What I did last weekend?
What did I do? I think whatever it was, it must have been fun. Oh wait, now it is coming back. On saturday evening, we went to dimsum to celebrate the father-in-law's birthday. Truly awesome that he is now retired and ready to take care of dogs, cats and grandchildren.
We ended up going to the Good Guys which was bought by another conglomerate and as a result, the good guys are no more. I thought about getting some speakers and a car radio or a digital video camera, but the only ones left were the floor models. The mother-in-law on the other hand bought two handsome chairs, leather to boot.
Went to sleep until seven o'clock at which time, we went to a housewarming party. Got some pizza and shrimp cocktail for the party. couldn't eat the shrimps because of the gout. the pizza was okay. should have gotten the round freaking pizza. Played trivial pursuit and lost dramatically. acutally, we got routed. no drama there. we just did not know the material. But i learned that michael moriarty lost his position in the series law and order because he went against janet reno.
Sunday, we went to the apartment in the afternoon and packed. Dashed off to the inlaw's place to drop off boxes. Saw an uncle there making storage areas. I wanted to get him to the law firm so I asked for his resume.
Not a bad weekend.

Nora Aunor and Colonization
Willi Pascual writes of Nora Aunor the actress / politician of our times. But in his examination of Nora's allure and career, he touches upon the part of all Filipinos, that of the colonized person. It is touching to hear that in the midst of cinemas, there are photos of Germanic looking God images bleeding their heart in front of Pin@ys. It is an appropriate symbol of how far colonization seeps into the Pin@y life. And yet, there is hope in the humor of a people who manage to make light of living in the middle of a railway. Why America Attacked Iraq
So, let me just say... The more I think about it, the more it seems to me that the US attacked Iraq because of the Twin towers going down in 2001. The US is so paranoid of being attacked that we attacked a place that surely had some weapons of mass destruction. Of course, it's just that Bush and his cohorts lied about the intelligence report.

A Physician's Mind
In Leslie's Blog we see the mind of a physician as she gets married, plans for a child and starts a medical practice. Hoping for a child, Leslie has been blessed as a godmother twenty times over. How long will the physician couple stay in the Philippines? Will they make it or will they be forced to go to greener pastures? This are the days...(cue 10,000 Maniacs music)...Days of Nullah is the Pin@y Blog of the Day for the 11th of November in the year of the Pin@y 2005.

What's this? Someone in the Church actually says that the Bible is not literal? Shit, there might be hope for all of us after all. Hmm, maybe, they will get a pope from the third world next time the chimney smokes.
Teen commits suicide
A CNN story is about how a teen / college student committed a transition from this life to the other. The parents blame the newsgroup.
If one examines her photos, you can see that she is not really happy. That she is putting on a show. Check her out in front of the piano. Tragic.

What's Your Secret?
In another life, in another place, we are someone else. Crying in Disneyland; admiring anorexics and bulemics; having sex with a pastor and not believing in God; confirming the absence of God because of the death of a child. They have told their secrets. What's yours?

From My Province
Jun Lisondra is from Nueva Ecija. His poetry comes from the deep soul of the people who plant rice and tend to farms. It is the stalwart notion of a man surviving against the elements. Yet, he maintains the vision of an explorer gazing into the unknown. He travels to find that which is unseen. In the course of events, he finds that which is special. Jun is the Pin@y Blog of the Day for the 9th day of November in the year of the Pin@y 2005.

One Month Anniversary
One Month Anniversary
So, it's been a month since the wedding. Friends and family have asked, "How does it feel?" In truth, it feels like it has always felt. We've been going out for eight years. It's been fun, been happy and have had very few tears. We sometimes discuss that we don't have drama in our life. Well, mostly, I bring it up. The SO says that when there is a lot of drama, it is often that the couple probably are mismatched.
I point out of course that couples point to the drama and call it passionate love. The SO thinks that it hurts too much to have a nasty disagreement so that one can have passionate love. I look back on what I wanted and realize that the women I used to like were very incompatible with me. They were needy or emotionally immature. Imagine that! Can you believe that I am saying that?

I point out of course that couples point to the drama and call it passionate love. The SO thinks that it hurts too much to have a nasty disagreement so that one can have passionate love. I look back on what I wanted and realize that the women I used to like were very incompatible with me. They were needy or emotionally immature. Imagine that! Can you believe that I am saying that?

A day in the life is Beth's umbrella against the world. She's let go of her ex-boyfriends, created a blog to keep her sanity, hates mirror hags, and lives in the garden state. Then, she critics Cinderella and is hit upon by a Star Wars geek. If that isn't enough to make Beth the Pin@y Blog of the day for the seventh of November in the year of the Pin@y 2005, I don't know what is.

Two Hours to Monterey
Recovering from a winetasting at Wine from the Heart. We ended up buying the 2002 Swanson from Oakville, Napa.
Yup, I'm now about to lie down and snore.
Perfectly ripe - both physically and physiologically.
Aromas of cassis, blackbe3rry and clove followed by a full textured mouth.
Layers of black fruit, spice and espresso bean plus a hint of smoky oak.
Yup, I'm now about to lie down and snore.
He's as Colonized as I Am
Meet Oliver, the Pin@y Blogger of the day for the 4th of November in the year of the Pin@y 2005. He is as colonized as I am. He says in his blogs what I thought fifteen to twenty years ago when I first came to the land of the free. His blog title "Where Am I Going?" is quite appropriate because he is in the ride of his life. His life hinges on the brink between reality and freedom. When he realizes that he is colonized, I wonder what he will do. I hope at the very least the he continues to write because he is as eloquent in it as anyone else I have read.

Bold and Wonderful
Gigi looks like Alma Moreno. Bold and beautiful. But that is not why you should go to her blog. You should go because she's a great blog designer and she takes celibacy dares. Bwahahah. Stunning layout. Amazing writing. You are really lucky that she's blogging. Gigi is the Pin@y Blog of the Month for November in the year of the Pin@y 2005.
Very Cool Gifts
Very Cool Gifts
It will be four weeks since the wedding. I have been coming down from the high of the wedding thanks to my teacher's advice on life. To wit, make sure that you have events planned from week to week and month to month so that you can relate it to your wedded life. In short, you still have to work at your married life even harder now.
Two weeks ago, we went to Macy's to finalize our gift sets. We ended up taking ten of the china plates. Although, we have never thrown a formal party, nor do I see one coming up within the next five years. Maybe those are for twenty years from now. I don't know. But the pattern we selected was nice with embossing on the plate.
We got two of the pots that we wanted. They were the All Clad stainless steel type. I have to thank my Ikea pot and say goodbye to it. I probably also have to let go of the steamer from Chinatown. When the steamer started, it was a nice light brown color. After years of use, it is now dark brown. Does food taste better in an old steamer? Someone who was very generous also got us a complete set of pots and pans. Very nice.
We also received a complete knife set. Now, when I first graduated from school, I bought a Henckel's knife set. When the SO went into the condo, she also bought a knife set. The parentals then gave her some never needs sharpening knives. So, we now have three sets of knives. We will keep some as stea knives I guess. The others might have to go to Las Vegas. But then again, they will never want for sharp knives in my house.
As for travel, I believe we have completed our wish list. We now have four Samsonite travel bags. Plus the old Samsonites that we had taken to just about everywhere, well, we are complete. We just have to select stickers for some of them. Samsonites are another one of those things from my childhood. My father bought them when he went in one of his few jaunts to the US or was it Japan?
By the way, of course, we are missing all the other gifts here. I'm just giving a summary of the ones I remember. There was cash and we thank everyone for it. I hope you had fun in the money dance. You know tha I took dance lessons for that, right? There were a lot of glass and crystal wedding photo frames. Very nice and they need to be kept in a cabinet or something.
And for the weekend, off to Monterey for a couple of days for the SO's conference. I was a good boy and was cleaning up my apartment. Now, I just need to begin moving materials.
Somewhere along here, there is supposed to be a lesson. Maybe it is that if you are generous to people, your generosity will come back tenfold. Ohh! that's it!!! I just got news that one of the SO's uncles is going to be interviewed at the law firm. For the longest time, I wanted to him to come on board. It's just getting the right fit of job. So hopefully, he does well in the interview. Then surely, generosity will come back tenfold.

CPR: For the Body
CPR
Went to a certification for CPR yesterday. Cardiac problem is one of the leading causes of death in the US. I figured that I should know some things about it.
Learned how to do the Heimlich maneuver as well as CPR. Also learned that there are now disposable mouth shields in case you don't want to have mouth to mouth contact with someone.
The teacher posed an interesting question. What if you see a stranger pass out and you don't have one of your face shield / mouth shield. What do you do? In the old days of the 1970's, they used to just put mouth over mouth. But with the coming of AIDS and hepatitis, those days are now over.
The answer is that you can give them chest compression until someone comes along. Hmm, maybe I would let someone else better trained than me to handle that. But it does pose you a tickle, doesn't it? You essentially have to measure your life against their life.
I also learned that there are now new electronic defibrillation devices that one can use in the event of a heart attack. Apparently, it is better to defibrillate earlier than later.

She Hates the Philippines
Katie is planning on changes in the Philippines. She will begin with the common-tao. Work her way to the top-politicians. Then finish it all off as she becomes a candidate for the presidency. Don't let her blogtitle fool you. She loves her country more than others. Katie vs the Philippines is the Pin@y Blog of the Day for the 3rd of November in the year of the Pin@y 2005.

Haynaku!!!
The anthology for haynaku is now ready for your perusal.
The "hay(na)ku" is a poetic form invented by Eileen Tabios, as inspired by Richard Brautigan, Jack Kerouac, and Tabios' meditations on the Filipino transcolonial and diasporic experience. The form is deceptively simple: a tercet comprised of one-, two- and three-word lines. Many poets also created variations from the basic form, attesting to its paradoxical suppleness despite its minimalist orientation. Inaugurated on June 12, 2003 (Philippine Independence Day), the form swiftly became popular and since has been used by poets all over the world -- including the anthology's 38 poets and editors Jean Vengua (U.S.) and Mark Young (Australia).
Boyish Chick is Growing Up
It is hard to find a blog where you see the transition from kolehiyala to a professional consultant. Abigail is the Pin@y Blog of the Day for the 2nd of November in the year of the Pin@y 2005. It is interesting to see her thoughts on ex-boyfriends and her thesis. Slowly, she's growing up.

It Was Only Two Year Ago?
Only Two years Ago?
Hmm, it seems odd. But only two years ago, I left the job at the crazy factory. I just saw my calendar last night as I was packing it. Odd. Only a year ago, I was going nuts at the photofinishing place. Now, I am enjoying life at the law firm.
It seems that the crazy factory was five years ago. It seems that the last job was three years ago. I suppose, it's all the positive things and the energy.
My teacher was telling us that inevitably, there will be a depression after the wedding. It's because of the fact that most people will have moved on. It's true. When I see people, I still ask them about their memories of the wedding. I suppose I have not come down from the high yet.
However, my teacher also told us that the cure for this depression is to plant small events throughout the year so that you can have small celebrations each month. That is a wonderful idea. It's a great idea.
Many times, people will get depressed and ask "Is that it?" Well, it will be if you just sit on your ass and not plan anything.
Many times, people ask in relationships, "I want it like when it first started. Fireworks." Well, it can't be because you actually know your partner. The fireworks came from the adrenaline.
We are addicts. Addicts to dopamine or addicts to cortisol. Dopamine for the good times. Cortisol for the bad.
If we are not happy, we would rather feel sad because in the end, it's better to feel than not to feel.
So yes, those crazy factory and photofinishing place are now in the past. I have started purging my life of those bad memories so that I can remember the good ones.
Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Day of the Dead! Actually, perhaps I should not say "Happy." I don't think you were supposed to be happy in the Philippines on this day. You were supposed to be solemn and respectful. How Pin@ys equate respect and solemn with being sad is beyond me.
As for me, we continued our packing last night Halloween night. No trick or treaters in our area because most of the area is student housing. Most of the students were probably out in the Castro.
Packing. Yup, I recycled several years of material. I don't know how to recycle bank statements though. But I have let go of some photographic magazines. Though I don't know what to do with the Playboy. I was thinking of selling them. But, that is a lot of time and energy. Garage sale maybe?
I remember when I used to get really excited that an Asian became a Playboy centerfold. It turns out that in the last year, a Japanese became one. When I saw her, she looked like the Charlie's Angel Lucy Liu.
From time to time, I would say, "It looks hopeless." But then the SO replied that if it was hopeless, we would have to throw everything out. Back to work I went packing.
The SO got to a workbook on biochemistry which was in tatters. It was in tatters because I spent all my time in that book. I learned everything about biochemistry. She said that it was time to let go. I said that someday, I was going to sit through and do all the problems again. She managed to say that "All the biochem is inside of you." And maybe she was right. At least she did not say that I was an idiot.
~~~~~
By the way, I am temporarily omitting the next three days of Pin@y Blog. I realized that it could be disconcertning for some people.
